During March 25th – 27th, 2009 took place at Sinaia the Conference „Investigation and Risk-based Remediation of Contaminated Soil. Strategies and Techniques for Oil & Gas Industry”. The Conference was organized by Meda Consulting and was supported by the following companies: Petrom as Main Partner,  ERM Environmental Resources Management as Associate Partner,  PSV INDUSTRIES and ECO ENGINEERING GROUPas Partners.

Whereas oil and gas production have a very long history in Romania, dealing with the environmental impacts of these activities has not. This has significantly changed over the last years, where not only the laws and regulations on soil protection have been revised, but also the industry’s policies and environmental management processes have become more progressive. The market for environmental service providers and consultants has consequently been booming in Romania, and there is a still increasing demand in the field of soil and groundwater investigation and remediation.

The Conference „Investigation and Risk-based Remediation of Contaminated Soil. Strategies and Techniques for Oil & Gas Industry” brought through the aborted subjects an important contribution in the soil protection domain in Romania. During the three sessions of the event, environmental protection agengies representatives, industrial economic agents, environmental consultants and technologies and services suppliers presented various points of view as well as their experience regarding environment protection regulations, strategies, techniques and investigation methods, as well as decontamination / remediation methods. The technologies presented during the Conference's works included examples of drilling activities, sample prelevation, geophisic investigations, datas management and interpretation, modeling, remediation methods, oil spill intervention methods and a particular study case about a vast remediation project in Bucharest.
